National Tea Cosy Day is one of my favourite little celebrations of the year. It’s a day for appreciating the humble tea cosy in all its forms, from the fancy and flamboyant to the everyday ones that quietly keep the teapot warm. This year I wanted to create something that felt homely and familiar, the kind of cosy that lives on the teapot all year round.
The Everyday Simple Tea Cosy is inspired by those classic kitchen cosies that feel like part of the family. No fuss, no frills, just a friendly, practical cosy that does its job and looks lovely doing it. I wanted it to be the sort of cosy anyone could knit, even if they’ve never made one before. Something warm, welcoming and easy to enjoy.
To celebrate National Tea Cosy Day, I decided to share a free pattern, and this one felt perfect for the occasion. It’s simple, cheerful and made for everyday use. A cosy that beginners can enjoy, and experienced knitters can relax into without thinking too hard. It captures the warm, homely spirit of National Tea Cosy Day.
Before I release the pattern, two lovely knitters are giving it a quick test knit for me, just to make sure everything is clear and easy to follow. Once they’ve finished, the pattern will be ready to share with everyone as a little National Tea Cosy Day treat.
I can’t wait to bring you the finished pattern. It’s a medium sized, simple cosy, but it carries that warm, familiar feeling of home and that’s exactly the feeling I wanted to capture..
